maybe, virginia
aside from the visual similarities to a certain jolly old elf, the connection between these two and the spirit of giving came back to me today (along with the spirits of christmas present and future). in faith circles, it's believed that death reunites. and that belief is usually reserved for the dead. it's interesting to note, however, the power death has to reunite the living.

zungguzungguguzungguzeng
not as high quality camera work as ant vs. wasp, but the soundtrack is more danceable.
also this: "I'd like to see the inspector's face the day an observed teacher announces to the class: 'By the end of this lesson, you will have filled in a wordsearch after carefully selecting the correct colour of highlighter pen and resisting the primal urge to fold the paper into aeroplanes.'"

weary blues
english teacher made the kids memorize this poem and then recite it a week or so later. they were surprisingly (to me) into it, but why shouldn't they have been. what surprised me was the excitability they showed, especially the boys, practicing in other classes as the readings got closer. poetry is a great device for teaching reading- rhythm, rhyme, repetition, and phrasing. comprehension is a whole other lesson.
this other stuff is bonus footage/tangents found while searching for the poem.
one of the comments on this video posed: "is there any better video to accompany this song?"

commanders in chief
"i think when we talk about corporal punishment we have to think of our own children; and we're rather reluctant, it seems to me, to have other people administering punishment to our own children. but because we are reluctant to do so, it seems to me, it puts a special obligation upon us to maintain order and to send children out from our home who are, who accept the idea of discipline, so that... i would not be for corporal punishment, but, in the school, but i would be for a very strong discipline at home so that we don't place an unfair burden upon our teachers."
how long shall they kill our prophets

cuff
what's up with this word? i hear it every day in the classroom and the school halls. it seems to be an all purpose word/phrase along the lines of "oh my god!" but is usually directed at something or someone the user has deemed stupid or worthy of insult, generally an adjective.
i resisted calling this post 'cufflinks,' but here (are/will be) a few.
also, along with links, i will be adding more thoughts to this post when time allows.

untitled and hairbox
by richard artschwager.
not exactly what i was looking for, but nevertheless fits the bill.
and: fit the bill (British, American & Australian) also fill the bill (American & Australian) to have the qualities or experience which are needed. I'm looking for someone with several years of publishing experience and you seem to fit the bill. The city needs a strong leader, and the new mayor just doesn't fill the bill.
