commanders in chief

"i think when we talk about corporal punishment we have to think of our own children; and we're rather reluctant, it seems to me, to have other people administering punishment to our own children. but because we are reluctant to do so, it seems to me, it puts a special obligation upon us to maintain order and to send children out from our home who are, who accept the idea of discipline, so that... i would not be for corporal punishment, but, in the school, but i would be for a very strong discipline at home so that we don't place an unfair burden upon our teachers."

cuff

what's up with this word? i hear it every day in the classroom and the school halls. it seems to be an all purpose word/phrase along the lines of "oh my god!" but is usually directed at something or someone the user has deemed stupid or worthy of insult, generally an adjective.

i resisted calling this post 'cufflinks,' but here (are/will be) a few.
also, along with links, i will be adding more thoughts to this post when time allows.

saturday

all my dreams were realized on saturdays, down the road, facing the massive brick wall on the back of the elementary school. really, what could be more inspiring?
